If you have to resit this exam, and passed it easily the last time, then you probably don’t need to do any revision at all. Most of the questions were very similar to the last time I sat it. I didn’t do any revision, and completed the 100 questions in 35 minutes and got 94% (I could have done a bit better if I had spent another half an hour trying to work out the best answer to some really badly worded questions, but life is too short!) PS – if you have a contact at Google, be sure to ask them for a Google Test Centre voucher, and save yourself $50…
You have to laugh at how Google treat their customers sometimes. :- http://googleaffiliatenetwork-blog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/an-update-on-google-affiliate-network.html. Of course they did this about 5 hours after I wrote in the PPCNI Top AdWords Tips about how it was worth signing up for! So, if you are a merchant in the UK and want to work with the really big cash back sites (Quidco and Top Cash Back), and Google is no longer an option, which are the best affiliate networks to sign up with? I got an email from the nice people at Quidco recently saying :- Someone from our Client Services Team in London are currently looking to migrate all retailers on the GAN network to another network at the moment. However, if you want to have a browse at the other networks we work with then here is the list: Affilinet, Affiliate Future, Affiliate Window, Commission Junction, Impact Radius, Linkshare, Online Media…

In a surprising move (surprising in that it took them so long), Microsoft have copied Google yet again, and made Bing Ads more like AdWords. (These have actually have been for around 20 days now… Sorry for being so slow to point this out.). At any rate, it looks like the majority of advertisers are not taking advantage of this yet, so make sure you get sitelinks added to all your Bing Ads campaigns to make them stand out from the competition before everyone starts doing it! For anyone who wonders what I am talking about, here is an example of what sitelinks look like on Bing UK (The links for ‘Astro Trainers’, ‘Football Boots’, ‘Running Shoes’, ‘Infant Trainers’) :-
There is little doubt that this will play an important part in ranking items in Google Shopping in the future. So if you have an e-commerce site in the UK you cannot afford to ignore it. I’m not sure why it is called ‘Trusted Shops’ in Google Merchant Center and ‘Trusted Stores’ everywhere else online, but if you are wondering if/when this will be available in the UK, it seems likely that it will be in the second half of 2013. In this post, I showed the initial effect the new Google Grants changes had had on one client account. Well, there is a bit more data in, and unfortunately, it looks like the initial findings were correct :- It also looks like the extended grants (Google Grants Pro) is no longer open for applications! There have been some mutterings on the internet that this is another of Google’s ‘tax avoidance’ ploys, but the problem with that theory is that if they reduce their tax bill any further, then governments around the world will be paying them! PS – here is a good post giving a summary of the Google Grant changes, along with some handy tips on what to do about them – http://wholewhale.com/adwords-changes
Bearing in mind that it is March at present :- It’s a very easy thing to forget to pause your Christmas campaign / Christmas ads (though you can set an end date on a campaign when you set it up or use automated rules to pause Christmas related ads after a certain date).
