Should I Forget About PPC And Concentrate on Search Engine Optimisation (Part 2)?.

In a previous post about PPC vs SEO. The answer was a resounding ‘NO’. Just to hammer home the point, here is a summary of some recent research by Google :- 81% of ad impressions and 66% of ad clicks occur in the absence of an associated organic result on the first page of search results. All ad clicks in these situations are incremental. On average, for advertisers who appear in the top rank organic slot, 50% of ad clicks are incremental. This means that half of all ad clicks are not replaced by organic clicks when search ads are paused. For advertisers whose organic search results are in the 2nd to 4th position, 81% of ad clicks are incremental. For advertisers appearing in organic position of 5 or lower, 96% of ad clicks are incremental. Here’s my summary of their summary:- AdWords is driving a *lot* of traffic to…

How Much Money Can You Make With Google AdSense?

I posted before about how I had made some half decent money from AdSense (though not without putting a *lot* of work into it) :- How I Made £20,000 From AdSense With Google placing more and more importance on the Google Display Network, in theory, AdSense publishers should be able to make even more money going forward. If you do decide to go down this road, bear in mind that the niche you choose can make a *big* difference to your earnings. As far as I am aware, AdSense terms of service do not allow you to divulge specific RPM, CPCs etc. (someone please correct me if this is definitely not the case, and I’ll add all the extra information into the screen shot below) :- Without revealing specific CPCs / RPMs, the figures above cover the same time frame (From July 2011 to February 2012), and the number of…

Increase AdWords Sales 18 Times (By paying a bit more for each click).

You can segment most of your Adwords data by ‘Top vs. Other’. It’s worth doing this once in a while to see how many clicks you are getting from ‘Top’ i.e. above the search results compared to ‘other’ i.e. to the side of or below the search results. Here is an example (for Google Search only):- After more than 6 million impressions on Google Search, you can see that a ‘top’ click does cost significantly more, but the amount of extra clicks/conversions/sales that you can get from appearing here is quite astounding. In the case above, between the same dates, clicks from above the search results gave more than *18 Times* the conversion value of ‘other’ clicks. The moral of the story is, if you cannot afford to pay for ‘Top’ clicks in AdWords, this will greatly limit the number of sales you can generate with AdWords. Hint – if…

Google AdWords For Dummies 3rd Edition – Review.

I do not agree with everything in this book. They dismiss ‘Conversion Optimizer’ in one paragraph (saying you won’t learn anything by using it). They dismiss modified broad match as being “complicated and typically unnecessary”! Some of the conclusions are backed up with very flimsy evidence. Having said that, the book costs less than £15, and is a fascinating read, even if you don’t agree with everything in it – it will at least get your grey matter going and get you thinking about how to improve existing campaigns or set up better new ones. If you are thinking of spending money on AdWords, you *will* get more than £15 of value from it. Buy it now! By the way – thanks Amazon for reducing the price about 2 days after I bought it! :-)
