Google Really Really Pushing The Social Side Of Things Now…

There have been a lot of reports around the internet of Google making a massive push to get everyone using Google+. Here’s a few links for reference:- State Of Search Simply Zesty One more way they are now pushing Google Plus is with AdWords ‘Social Extensions’:- Google AdWords Social Extensions. This is a big incentive for AdWords advertisers to make their adverts stand out from the crowd. Of course, to make this work well in AdWords campaigns, advertisers will *have* to have a Google Plus Business page, and will *have* to interact with a lot of other people on Google Plus. It is still early days for Google+, but I think the odds are that it will succeed at least to some extent. So if you are a business that spends a lot of money on Google AdWords, then it is certainly something worth looking into (though I wouldn’t spend…

Importing Google Analytics Goals/Transaction As Conversions Into AdWords.

The great thing about the standard (javascript) AdWords conversion tracking is that it uses a 30 day cookie, so it picks up the vast majority of conversions that would almost certainly not have happened without AdWords. e.g. If someone clicks on an Adwords ad, then clicks on an organic result and then makes a purchase from your web site, Google Analytics will count this as an organic conversion, but AdWords will show it as an AdWords conversion (provided the conversion happened within 30 days of the last AdWords click). That is straightforward enough – and covered in the AdWords exams. But, sometimes it is not practical to get the javascript AdWords conversion code installed, and then you have to rely on importing Analytics Goals into AdWords. When you do this, there was one thing that was never very clear in my mind. Do the imported goals / transactions still use…

Microsoft Search Alliance In UK Delayed Until June 2012?

I would post a link to this – but it appears to be broken at present. The crux of the matter is, not so long ago, the MS / Yahoo search advertising alliance was due in January 2012. But the last official news on it (on 7th November 2011) was that it was now due in ‘the second quarter of 2012’ which means it could be June 2012 before you have the luxury of managing your Yahoo and adCenter campaigns from the one interface (if you’re lucky)!

How Much Traffic Can you Get From The Different UK Regions (And The Republic Of Ireland)?

This used to be a difficult questions to answer, particularly for N.Ireland business. You could use the AdWords traffic estimator, but when selecting ‘Northern Ireland’, you would often end up with zero clicks a day which wasn’t very helpful at all. In a previous post on AdWords Geo Targeting, with a few un-scientific observations, I reckoned that Northern Ireland had a reach of around 0.66% of Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales). Well we have to guess no more – as Google have finally given us ‘reach’ values when you are selecting which areas to target for your campaign. Here are the UK regions (and Eire) :- According to these figures, Northern Ireland currently has approximately 1.04% of the reach of Great Britain. They also say : Reach is an estimate of the audience in a location target, based on unique cookies. The reach estimate may differ significantly from census…
