Not content with launching AdWords Express In The UK, and AdWords Product Listing Ads In The UK,Google announced yet another way that makes it easier for businesses to give their money directly to Google without the inconvenience of having to manually set up their own adverts or consult a third party consultant first:- Google AdWords Dynamic Search Ads. Though to be fair (at least in the short term) – they are pushing this as something that you should use in addition to other AdWords adverts. But it does beg the question, is this the start of Google actively trying to remove the middle men (AdWords Qualified Professionals / AdWords Certified Companies)? Maybe I am being a little paranoid here – but if you are a PPC consultant I don’t think you can afford to ignore these developments completely.
See:- Funny cos it’s true checkout video.
On July 26th 2011 we did a post about AdWords Express. But we were not sure when it would be made available in the UK. Well, the wait is finally over! For those of you who want ripped off Google to handle your local advertising more or less automatically, on your behalf – head on over to http://www.google.co.uk/adwords/express/ Though to be fair – it does look as though it will at the very least give you a bit of guidance on setting up your Google Places listing – which is important for local businesses.
Product listing ads have a lot of potential for sure. Until recently they have only been available in the USA. But on looking at one client account today I saw a new tab:- Whoopee I thought… I started reading up on the ‘Product Listings Ads – Basics’ help in AdWords, and it started to sound less and less great the more I read. Turns out you *have* to use CPC bidding for a start. Here is the message I got after I tried a ‘Product Target’ to a CPA campaign :- Product targets may not be added to campaigns using the CPA (Conversion Optimiser) bidding option. (Just checking). I had read somewhere that Google were allowing certain advertisers to use CPA bidding on Product Listing Ads, but this it at their discretion I guess. So at the moment as far as Google Product Listing ads go in the UK, they…
Here’s a pretty good article by Google about this, though personally I think it is a little bit late in the year to be starting to plan for Christmas sales! :-
Sometimes the Opportunities tab in AdWords can come up with some half-decent keyword suggestions, but I find it very very hard to believe that it is beyond the realms of possibility that Google couldn’t improve this (in favour of the advertiser) a hell of a lot. Example:- I have a campaign for a client selling (lets call it) Blue Widgets. The campaign is set to target Northern Ireland only. Here are some of the keyword ideas that Google give me for that campaign:- Blue Widgets Hampshire Blue Widgets York Blue Widgets Leeds Blue Widgets Leicester etc. etc. etc. Come on Google, I know that it is in your own best interests to suggest as many reasonably relevant keywords as possible – but this is really taking the Mickey! Note – with the new(ish) ‘Advanced Location Options’, ‘Exclusion Method’ campaign settings – I *could* in theory add all these keywords and…
This is available to any UK/Irish business that wants it. Courtesy of the Federation Of Small Business. First one to post a comment gets it. No strings attached. If anyone does take Google up on their offer of getting Google to build their campaign(s) for them – I would love to know how they get on!
Previously to this announcement from Google:- http://adwords.blogspot.com/2011/10/ads-quality-improvements-rolling-out.html It was a common misconception that your landing page affected Quality Score. It didn’t. What it did do was affect your minimum first page bid estimates. This discouraged people from having rubbish landing pages, but if you could create fantastic ads, bid high to start with and get a great CTR, then this was a minor inconvenience. Not any more apparently… When searching on Google, users appreciate results that are relevant and deliver a great experience after they click. In August, we announced trials in Brazil, Spanish-speaking Latin America, Spain, and Portugal1 that increased the weight given to relevance and landing page quality in determining Quality Score and how ads are ranked on Google. The goal was to improve the user experience with search ads. Based on the results we’ve been seeing, we’re now rolling these changes out globally over the coming weeks….
