AdWords First Page Bid Estimates – UK v Republic Of Ireland

Anyone who is familiar with Google AdWords knows that the ‘First Page Bid Estimate’ for keywords is only a rough guide, but all the same, have a look at the following estimates for the same keywords in the same account:- UK Eire This is not an isolated incident either. The Republic of Ireland is a much smaller market than the UK, but you will almost always find that you can get better value clicks there. So if you don’t already sell to the Republic of Ireland – you should at least look into it!

AdWords Experiments How Much / How Soon Should You Trust Them?

It’s always easy to jump to conclusions too quickly, but it can even be the case sometimes that Google AdWords actively misleads you. Have a look at the screen shot below :- The AdWords experiment is telling me that “The difference in metrics represents a statistically significant increase.” This would be very useful to know but for the fact that the experiment is 100% *IDENTICAL* to the control. Now, Google don’t make a qua-zillion dollars a day from AdWords without being very good at guestimating which ads will get more clicks than others, and I’m sure they get it right more often than not – but please bear these findings in mind before making changes that may adversely affect the performance of your campaigns…

Why Google Places Reviews Are *Even More* Important For Your Business Than They Were Before

In a previous post about Why Google Places Reviews Are Important, And Will Become Even More Important In The Future. I touched on what Google Places reviews mean for the restaurant business in Northern Ireland. Since that post, Google have stopped using reviews from third party web sites, and are now only showing reviews posted from Google accounts. Here is what happened on my Android phone previously when I looked for ‘Restaurants’ :- As you can see, there were 71 great reviews for The Cuan. But here is what the search results look like now :- Oh no….  There is only one review for the Cuan now, and it has moved down to second in the results. To make matter worse:- The one review I am shown is only 4 stars! What does this mean for the local restaurant business (and all local businesses across the UK to an extent)?…

AdWords Category Targeting / Behavioural Targeting

This is something I see a lot these days… I downloaded a Chemical Brothers album from Amazon and 15 minutes later I saw this ad on one of my own sites (photos-for-you.com):- At the very least, this type of thing should allow you to make more money if you have a web site with AdSense on it! If you are lucky enough to be in a niche that has a well targeted category in AdWords, then this should make the Google Display Network work better for you than just using contextual targeting…
