Importing Google Adwords Campaigns To MS Adcenter

Now that Microsoft have bought Yahoo, it is definitely worth looking at this…

Here is my short guide on how to have your Adwords campaign up and running on Bing in no time:

  • Download and use the Adwords Editor software.
  • Download your account.
  • If you are using dynamic keyword insertion in your adverts, make sure that the capitalisation of all your keywords is correct – Bing will insert them as is unlike Google where you can modify them on the fly with {Keyword:} or {KeyWord} etc..(I think you can’t go wrong with ‘Title Case’).
  • Export your account as a .csv file. (If you do want to change all your keywords to title case, then you can use the ‘Proper’ function in MS Excel e.g. “=Proper(o6)” will create a Title Case version of the keyword in Cell o6.
  • Download MS Adcenter Desktop.
  • Import your .csv file.
  • *Make sure you manually set your ‘Geo Target’ options on each campaign*. It would be nice of these were imported automatically. It would also be nice if you could target the Republic of Ireland (This will come at some point in the not too distant future).
  • Upload changes.
  • Monitor.
  • Adjust bids as necessary.
  • Be amazed at how little traffic you get compared to Google! (This may change….)

PS – Here is an email I got recently from adCenter support about adverts in the Republic of Ireland:-

“With regards to when Bing will be running adverts natively in the Republic of Ireland, there is no finite date when this will be available. As Bing.co.uk has just come out of the beta stages, I would expect this to be in mind for the near future, but as of yet do not currently have a date I can provide you with.”

KeyWordSpy

Access The Biggest And Most Powerful Keyword Database

I have been using this for a month now, and can honestly say, while it is not perfect, it is an absolutely fantastic utility which saves time and effort in setting up new PPC campaigns (and allows you to easily see what is working and what is not working for your competitors, so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel:-)

If you do PPC for a living, and can’t make KeyWordSpy pay for itself many times over, then you are in the wrong job! (It also is fairly useful for SEO).

It is also recommended by Howie Jacobson, so you don’t just have to take my word for it!

*Check out KeyWordSpy here*

(NB – Unless you are a *big* company, you only really need to purchase the ‘research’ option).

If you do try it out, please let me know how you got on…  Thanks.

Free Google Marketing Tools Worth Using…

So you want your Northern Ireland business to get more clients and/or sales through your web site, but you are not at the point where you want to spend money doing so?

Here are some great, free, marketing tools worth checking out:-

Google Local (Lots of extra exposure for your business if ‘Local’ business is important to you).

Google Analytics (This works well with Google Adwords, but also works without it).

Google Website Optimizer (As above).

Google Merchant Center / Google Base / Google Shopping / Google Product Search / Froogle (This has been called *many* things in the recent past, but it is a great way to get extra exposure for your products if you actually sell physical products).

Email Marketing

I don’t normally write about things that I know very little about, but I was at a conference about online marketing the other night, presented by Stuart McLean of Level Seven, and he recommended looking into Mailchimp, which is a free (up to a point) Email Marketing tool. Which looks well worth checking out.

But if you are not into ‘Do It Yourself’ internet marketing, then you could do a lot worse than let the Web Bureau handle your email marketing campaign. They are Email Marketing Experts In Northern Ireland.

Google Adwords For Dummies By Howie Jacobson (2nd Edition)

If you are at all interested in Google Adwords, and do not someone else to look after your campaigns for you, then I heartily recommend this book.

If you have been administering Google Adwords accounts for years, then you will already know 95% of it but it is always useful to read stuff that you already know when it has been written by someone else, as it really jogs your memory and makes you look at things from a slightly different angle…

There are also a few incredibly valuable  insights into Google Adwords and Internet Marketing in general, which are worth 10 times the price of the book if you are at all serious about using Google Adwords for your business.

There was one little gem in particular that had me saying out loud “Why didn’t I think of that!  It makes perfect sense now someone has pointed it out”..

But you’ll have to buy the book to find out what it is…. :-)

I got it for from Amazon.co.uk for £11.69. :-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Google-AdWords-Dummies-Howie-Jacobson/dp/0470455772/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253046972&sr=8-1

If you are spending more than a few quid a day on Google Adwords, and are not a seasoned Adwords expert, then this book will pay for itself very very quickly!

Look – let me just say this again “IT IS £11.69!!” If you ever do anything with Google Adwords, you should buy this book!

If anyone else has read this book – I would welcome your comments below….
